Therapy for PTSD

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

PTSD is a mental health reaction to a traumatic event. PTSD may result in being jumpy, not trusting others, experiencing flashbacks or nightmares, loss of memories, avoidance of situations or people, feeling depressed or losing your temper. Trauma can negatively impact relationships, make you feel numb or overly emotional, and make you doubt your own decisions.

Therapy for PTSD includes education on how trauma changes your brain, learning and practicing new skills, and participating in evidence-based approaches, like EMDR.

Examples of Traumatic Stress include:

  • Abuse and Neglect

  • Domestic Violence

  • Community Violence

  • Natural Disaster

  • Death of Loved One

  • Divorce/Separation

  • Vehicle Accident

  • Cultural/Racial Violence
